Perspective and Composition

When you're doing a lot of portraiture, and then is looking at an urban landscape, which has something very close to you. There's a mid foreground, middle ground and a distinct horizon based background. So how did you go about, e familiarizing familiarizing yourself with perspective and educating yourself on the subject? I had a little bit of a leg up in the sense that they immediately had me teaching foundations level drawing class, like a two, two dimensional design class, and then drawing.
