The SMP has been completely hollowed out now, the resignations during the campaign and then the whole blowback from the criminal investigation. What's left of the party was deeply, I think, deeply shocked by the strength of support for Kate Forbes. They thought it was a shoe-in for a Humza user, and that the election would just be a kind of foregone conclusion.
