Integration Points for S3 Data Platforms
Quilt is a management layer for your S3 buckets, but you don't have to go through the quilt API. We try to keep it really simple and might make S3 the integration point. The old gen prior generations of systems like Athena and which then I think drill and some of these other systems, they require physical folder structure for partitioning. That's that tension with like, Hey, all these things are in a package. And so we're working a lot and thinking a lot about separation of physical and logical structure. It'd be jarring if we made quilt the only front door S3 data.
Summary
Data is a team sport, but it's often difficult for everyone on the team to participate. For a long time the mantra of data tools has been "by developers, for developers", which automatically excludes a large portion of the business members who play a crucial role in the success of any data project. Quilt Data was created as an answer to make it easier for everyone to contribute to the data being used by an organization and collaborate on its application.
