So it's very, very scary to talk to somebody, especially if you have a crush on them. To pluck up the courage means to find the courage, the bravery within you and use it. I'm generally quite a shy person; so when I met my girlfriend, I had to pluckup the courage and go on a date with her. But of course it all worked out for the best.
