The Prime Minister said the abolition of the 45p tax rate became a distraction from the major parts of our grave plan. But she didn't really address the turmoil at all, did she? Not really. There was that efficiently delivered contrition about 45p and there was an explicit acknowledgments that she was walking in lockstep with the Chancellor. I think in reality, if you were the Prime Minister and her advisors and you were writing this speech, if you put a chunk in it about how the conference has been chaos, that ends up being the first clip in the six o'clock news piecethat I'm about to dash back and start editing.
