The Anglo-Saxons and Angles
Anglian influence began to be noticed back on the continent and writers there began to shift their terminology from Saxons to Angles. By the 8th century the Latin term Anglorum was in very broad use as a term for all of the Angles' accents. Around this time the native Anglo-Saxons sometimes used the term Angl-ken which was literally Angl- Ken or Angl-Ken. Sometimes the context suggests that it was used solely in reference to the Angles but sometimes it was used to refer to both the Angles and the Saxons.
