CHAPTER

I'll Call You Up, Mister Gadsby.

It was nine o'clock when we finished breakfast and went out on the porch. The gardener, the last one of gadsby's former servants, came to the foot of the steps. He turned to me apologetically. You know, od sport, i never use that pool all summer. I looked at my watch and stood up. 12 minutes to my train. But it was more than that. I didn't want to leave gadsby. And they thought of the night when i first came to his ancestral home three months before. It was the only compliment i ever gave him, because i disapproved of him from beginning to end.
