The Potters, That's What I Heard
There's some hint that this is going on, that something awful and terrible and tragic has happened. It's interesting like the line after Mr. Dursley stopped dead, fear flooded him. So it just seems like he's entering the possibility of this child being real into his mind in this chapter. He isn't quite sure that the baby's name. He doesn't really know how old and yet he's like processing all of this for the very first time in this chapters.
