Vail and the McRennell's Settlement
In the early 20th century, antitrust laws are a big deal. The anti-monopoly tradition seems to be going really well but it doesn't seem to have sunk its teeth into this. So what happened? Well, make a long story short, Vail came out of the post office. And he never believed in competition. He wanted to have one integrated network and provide universal service.
