Sacrifice Turns Back to Vengeance
Girard reads this myth as having originated in the collective murder of the younger wife. He then only has to imagine such an event coinciding with the return of the rain, and the rest would follow. The victim who had bestowed this gift would be understood as a God. Regular sacrifices would be instituted in order to reproduce the effect of the first. This sanctified violence would become the monopoly of the God - keeping all other violence at bay.
