The Origins of Early Astronomy Astrology

Astrology grew out of a union of aspects of advanced Babylonian celestial divination with Aristotelian physics and Hellenistic astronomy. From about 2000 BCE, we have hard evidence of interest in the stars as omens in Mesopotamia. A document with the evocative title, Prayer to the Gods of Night, comes down to us from about 1800 BC. The full sense wherein we have a fully modeled working cosmos with zodiac, planetary spheres is a rather later development.
