The Importance of Life Expectancy
We are not a happy species, whether you're looking at our psychological state or rates of violence and mass shootings. I think that one of the big, sort of unidentified factors is simply that we are living in an environment for which we are not suited. The infant mortality in hunter-gatherer groups is quite high generally between 30 and 40 percent of kids die before the age of 10. Abortions clearly aren't included in our calculations of life expectancy. There's some numerical hocus pocus going on there. They're going to be very likely to live into their 70s, even into their 80s. Modal life of death for Homo sapiens is from 72 to 91 years
