The Mechanics of Case Marking in English
English has no cases at all, or at least no case marking on the nouns. It's important to distinguish what I'm going to call core cases and non-core or non-semanetic cases. A small number of languages do have direct object prepositions. Hebrew has a preposition which is used for definite direct objects. Persian also marks definite direct objects but does not otherwise mark them.
