The Mantic Stain and Linda Sterling

In terms of artistic influence, I have been really interested in and have actually had some really fantastic exchanges with a contemporary feminist artist. Linda Sterling is primarily known as a collage artist and she does these incredible mashups of porn. She cuts out these pornographic images and then overlays them with flowers or cake or appliances - they are funny and disturbing and challenging and incredible at the same time. In 2014 she did a residency at Tate's and Ives where she encountered Calhoun and Calhoun's work and she fell in love with the idea of the Mantic stain.
