Simulation argument is the same there is currently no known way to prove or disprove it from the evidence on hand. If a tree follows in the woods, does it make a noise? Yes, at least under the current definition of noise. And you probably don't actually care if your fossil record that you made up is a perfect match. So you do not need to go through a big bang and run every planet in the universe forward to the present to simulate modern times. You can have a whole room of scientists staring at flawd data on a table, all nodding and agreeing it was correct. Or you could set the table on fire and tell them they were looking at totally accurate data
