The Importance of Respecting Diabetes Patients
DKA has a high mortality and most cases will be type 1 diabetics but 20% importantly will be type 2 diabetics. The presence of social deprivation alongside other factors like raised HBA1C levels and poor concordance with insulin therapies are associated with DKA deaths. So if you're able to identify that precipitate or potentially try and help out with some poor Concordance issues, these are things that we can do to proactively manage these patients prior to them having to bounce back in again.
