The History of Nutmeg
By the end of the 12th century, both nutmeg and mace were found in northern Europe. The Dutch destroyed all the trees in all the Maluca's islands except Banda to monopolize the trade in nutmeg. Nature did not sympathize with such meanness; a nutmeg pigeon carried the nuts which are their food into other countries. Connecticut was christened the nutmeg state, a name which it has retained even unto this day.
