Alpha-Synuclein Seed Amplification in Parkinson's Disease
The alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay is a little bit like PCR for genetic material but rather than applying the amplification technique to genetic material we apply it to proteins. The technology often is referred to as RT QUIC which stands for real-time quaking induced conversion and sometimes is protein misfolding cyclic amplification as PMCA. Results so far have shown really high sensitivity and specificity in parking some patients versus healthy controls although this is still a work in progress.
