How to Measure Your Progress in Chess

I only pick up one new opening at a time which was really hard when I came back to chess after 20 years and didn't know how to play any openings. There's something to be said for just knowing them and knowing the structures um and your opponent is just it's going to be really hard for them to know them as well. One of the things holding me back is uh time management so I'd like to make some gains in time management but the main way I want to measure myself in these upcoming tournaments is I just want to try really hard you know try to take as few walks as possible.
