The names like Maki Maki, Eris were suggested by Brown by Mike Brown. The people who find the objects get to propose names, but they don't get to say outright these are the names. Depending on which nomenclature you're looking at, you may see additional letters and numbers that have to do with periodic or non-periodic comets.
