The American Society for Hematology guidelines actually say that we should be keeping these patients on anticoagulation until their platelets are recovered. The reason why it's helpful using those other anticoagulants is that there are drips, there's infusions and you can titrate them. But I will say nothing really makes you paranoid like managing a hit patient. That heparin is just everywhere. It doesn't take much once somebody has this antibody kicking around to cause trouble. We'll talk more about re-challenging patients with heparin in future episodes.
