CHAPTER

The Power of Narratives to Produce Outcomes

The idea that you step into roles and only after you've stepped into it and then recognize it do you sort of like retroactively constitute yourself in those terms is a key feature of the Freudian enterprise. It's also one of those things that speaks to the power of certain narratives to produce outcomes or produce very stable structures in the world we understand ourselves by, whether we like it or not. I'll post the quote in the Patreon link for people who want to see it but it is this idea that somehow we are a lot of everyday life and a lot of ideological formation involves logics of identification but you don't even necessarily know you're doing.
