In college, he studied theater and then moved to New York. He auditioned for a lot of what he calls ethnically ambiguous roles because there weren't very many roles written for Asian men on Broadway. In 2017, the actor playing a Latin left the role. And then I took over for the role for three months while they searched for a new Aladdin.
