The Paradox of Joy
Lewis defines joy as an unsatisfied desire which is itself more desirable than any other satisfaction. In another place in surprise by joy he calls this longing, the pang, the inconsequential longing. So there's also the idea of pain here but at the same time of pleasure but it's not pleasure. And I found also in his essay that this joy could be a pointer to heaven and I think we all kind of realized the fact that his longing for joy was more than he thought of in the beginning.
