If your ferritin doesn't respond to blood donation or phlebotomy, then you have iron overload. So I think the simplest thing to do is try blood donation and see if the iron goes down without causing iron deficiency anemia. And if that doesn't work, then investigate oxidative stress; best thing to do would be measure everything in the oxidative stress section of the ultimate cheat sheet.
