The British Isles era was controlled by the crown under Queen Victoria particularly. The brutal kind of lazy, fair capitalist ideology that prevailed in Westminster prevented any kind of humanitarian concern for the way the market was impoverishing people in Ireland. But interestingly, the Ottoman caliph at the time sent shiploads who was moved by pity, these are sons of Adam. And he was moved as a Muslim caliph to send huge vast amounts of food staffs and other support by ship from what we call Turkey to Ireland.
