Should the Government Rake the Retirement Age?
Mark Whitaker: Raising the retirement age just cuts social security benefits. He says working longer is a fantasy for most people, even if they plan to. Whitaker: In 1983, President Reagan and Congress cut benefits by raising the retirement age from 65 to 67. If those cuts hadn't happened, social security benefits now would be 20% higher, he says.
