The Effect of Attitude on Persuasion
People attach to, like say, depression or anxiety and they turn it into basically an object. And then they relate to it as the disorder with an attitude that they're defeated. Same thing with addictions. You know, if you have a positive relationship to wine or to beer or to whatever painkillers, whatever, that enhances your inability to stop taking it because you have an attitude towards it that it's going to change. So we may be able to help people develop resistance to persuasion by reminding them that a persuasive message will be coming.
