Social Media and the Effective Altruist Framing

i think social media as it stands probably has a net cost over net benefit for both individuals and society certainly when you look at democratic backslide. Maybe there are also more local ways to to change the internet that i haven't really thought about this is the kind of thing that my students would do like Wikipedia's open access movement in which people can create their own little communities. I'm going to follow up with another foste and bargain that so many people make  and that's with social media. It might be as simple as supporting regulations on the way in which social media companies are held accountable for content that is offensive or false or misleading or democratically damaging.
