The Importance of Participation in the Civil Rights Movement
When you were growing up, the civil rights revolution was going on in the south and the war in Vietnam was raging. How insulated were you from all of that? Or were you aware of, of all of this? Well, that is an accurate description. The year I graduated from high school, we had two national leaders assassinated, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. And my first real political memory was 1964. Whenever Ronald Reagan spoke to the nation, called the speech where he advocated for Barry Goldwater. That's what they sort of emblematically supported a campaign.
