Getting your mind right before you're eating, not multitasking and then picking some sort of activity to activate that vagus nerve are the most important. Adding things like digestive bitters or apple cider vinegar before a meal can be really helpful because your body can actually utilize it and it works properly due to relaxed state. A lot of people we work with do need it, at least for like a short period.
