The View of Eternal Conscious Torment
The idea that anyone who dies apart from Christ is going to be tortured forever and ever and ever hinges on a few assumptions. It also takes the view that our sins are what separate us from God. And if we don't sort of deal with that sin in this life and we die with sin, unconfessed and unrepented for, then when we die, this sin remains on us will forever keep us separated from God. The other view has a little more scriptural support than eternal conscious torment.
