For the last million years, people were hunter gatherers. The main focus of life was finding enough food to eat. Things got a little better when people started farming around 12 thousand years ago. By the 18 fifties, only a quarter of people in western countries worked in agriculture. This example of north and south career is really interesting as south careers transformed so much in the space of several decades.
