What Is Our Living Memory of Plastic?
i was really struck by something i came across in an interview you gave with ank news titled anti colonial science and the ubiquity of plastic. You were quoted as saying, the number one product category for plastics is packaging. Most of that packaging has been necessary only since the 19 fifties. That's living memory. We could circulate goods an ways we remember from living memory differently then totally packaged in plastic. Bringing in this living memory as a response to plastic polution is incredibly simple, yet really profound. And i would love if you could speak to the history of plastic production in terms of how and why its necessity was manufactured.
