In the story of Noah and the Ark, the world is getting worse and worse and worse. The way it's getting worse is through this increase in artificial things such as technology or entertainment. And so because he's not able to pray, he's also a monster who can't do all these things properly. He stands on the side of the river that St. Christopher crosses people over - but once he reaches the other side his weight sinks him into water.
