Is Weight a Good Proxy for Environmental Impact?

We have dozens or even hundreds of times as much minerals in the earth's crust as current demand. So there's no question that we have the stuff. Where the issues lie, as always, is that you don't have the stuff immediately. And therefore, if you get rapid demand growth, then you're going to have short term mis matches between supply and demand. Higher price drives up supply. More supply drives down price.
