The Principle of Mediocrity

Science is largely a story of our fighting our way past anthropocentrism, this notion that we are at the centre of things. We share half our gens with a banana and more that with a banana slug. To understand humans, you have to understand everything in the universe. In both senses, if they exist, there's no limit to how important we are. So we are completely central to any understanding of the universe.
