Official claims of losses on both sides are certainly some way off the truth. Bakhmuth has come to be seen as a testing ground for Prigorzyn, who is now building up political capital in and around the Kremlin. Ukraine has backup lines further west, and it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Where it does make sense is far away in Moscow.
