3.4 Million Different Languages
Jonas Nala from Swaker, Johansson's talk at Protelang came up with 3.4 million different languages and only 25% of the ones are spoken by Homo sapiens. He did similar things to you guys, like estimating that maybe the lifespan of a language is about 1,000, 2,000 years. But he looked at modern day populations that we know about in Australia and in America's that are classified as hunter-gatherers.
