By 2002, Robert had been paying off Leon Moore for 25 years. He says he didn't want to get anyone else involved. When Robert finally went to the cops, it's because he thought Moore had killed or was about to kill somebody. There are copies of nine checks and 67 cashier's checks he wrote over the course of 25 years.

In 1977, a mild-mannered aeronautical engineer sideswiped a parked car in Compton, CA. When he stopped his car to survey the damage, a man named Leon Moore opened the driver-side door, shoved him over, and started driving. He said, "I'm about to save your life."
