We can only see the component that is a longer line of sight so on larger cosmic scales bigger than galaxy clusters you get the pancakes but on scales of galaxy clusters groups and smaller you get the fingers. How does measuring how galaxies cluster how galaxies and galaxy clusters are correlated relative to one another in space help us reconstruct what the universe is made of or how the universe has evolved over its history? "These things together can teach us a rich amount of information about what is actually in the universe and how is it behaving"
