With a work of art, there's something kind of quasi-miraculous by definition. Heidegger says even ordinarily fabricated objects can do this if you have the right sort of attitude toward them. And what we have is a kind of abyssal ground that the art object points down to in a way that the fabricated object doesn't as we normally experience them. It's withholding itself that is recorded in our activity of questioning and investigating. We know it, but we don't overcome that separation completely.
