How to Get the Rights to Adapt a Hot Book
If you're going to write a spec, get the rights. You have to give them a certain amount of money for it to feel tifor it to be real. I think adapting a book that's like you just pick up and read in the book store is a dangerous don't do that. They'll spend years and years on it, and then you can't get the rights, and now you're screwed. Just you can do a public domain, or you go get the rights."
