20 years ago the start of the US led coalition's operation to remove Saddam Hussein from power at dawn in Baghdad. Nobody knows exactly how many people died one estimate suggests around 300 000 Iraqis were killed by direct violence between 2003 and 2019 179 British armed forces personnel were killed in Iraq and nearly four and a half thousand American troops had died by 2010 as Gary Vincent reports.
