To get along with people means to have a good relationship with them. To get after could be a great phrasal verb to use, particularly by policemen. If there's somebody has robbed somebody's wallet or handbag in the street, don't just stand there, get after him, run after him. He's much older than you, you'll be able to catch him, so get after him. So to get ahead means to make progress, particularly in your career.
