The History of the Tower
The Great Wardrobe contains not just clothing and furs, but also valuable items like treasure and spices. It has an administrative system and staff of its own to maintain the regal image of the monarchs as they travel. The Mint becomes one of the tower's primary institutions and will remain within its walls for hundreds of years. In the 400 years since it was first established by William the Conqueror, the tower has developed from a fortress into a palace, a mint, a menagerie, a trade center.
