Yest: Arbitrariness of our designations for things is like hiding something behind a bush and going to find it. He's not giving the more subtle, potentially saucurian point that we could call this thing tree - but he doesn't even seem to be making that point either. What we forget is that when we make these designations, they reflect our interests and our needs. And so was mark just saying, if our interests happen to be in the part of the object that's above and below the ground, were going to mean the tree and its roots. Or if our interests happened to be broader, we'll take in the whole forest. They're not totally random
