The Waste of Money on HST2

HST2 is the high speed line which will link London, Midlands and North of England. Anna Jane Hunter met a man at Manchester's Piccadilly Station where yet another train was being cancelled because one day, HST2 is supposed to terminate there. She asked him about his views on HS2: 'The amount appalling waste of money that's been spent on HST and has been spent so far' He told her he thinks it would be better for freight trains to run longer distances in order to keep them moving. The relationship between passenger and freight railways has always been fraught. One of the reasons the railways became uneconomic in the 50s was more freight travelling on the roads
