The History of Operation Anadir

The Soviet missiles were sent from eight different ports, four in the North Atlantic and four on the Black Sea. The entirety of Operation Anadir would encompass around 85 ships on over 180 separate journeys. On August 22, a cargo ship transporting Cuban sugar to the Soviet Union docked in Puerto Rico for emergency repairs after hitting a reef. CIA agents then snuck into that warehouse and successfully poisoned the stored sugar.
