The ancient Stoics were not of course conscious of the value of the environment in which we are, right? In fact, explicitly they thought that what we call the environment, particularly other animals and plants, are there for our consumption. However, they did have this notion of the expanding circles of concern. One of the second century Stoics, his name was Hayero-Plist, said that we should try to practice this concept.
